I Read Newspapers for the Pictures and Jokes

Defence spending in a time of austerity looks at the future of defence spending. The recession and governments’ budgetary problems means that defence spending will probably be cut. It also looks at what can be done to limit the impact of smaller budgets; from better strategy to greater cooperation (if this is not impossible).

It contains this chart and accompanying law formulated by Norman Augustine which shows the effect of rising costs of fighter aircraft and its ridiculous conclusion:

“In the year 2054, the entire defence budget will purchase just one aircraft. This aircraft will have to be shared by the Air Force and Navy 3½ days each per week except for leap year, when it will be made available to the Marines for the extra day.”
